Design the diary for the person in the rain, not the surveyor at a desk

A diary with thirty fields gets filled in fully on day one and abandoned by day four. Cut it to the few things that decide arguments later: weather, who was on site, what work went where, what got in the way, anything said that changed the job. If the foreman can complete it in three minutes, it will still be complete in month five.
