On NEC, notify early and by the book

NEC contracts run on notification: a compensation event not notified within the contractual period can be lost entirely where the Project Manager was not obliged to notify it themselves. Diarise the notification period, use the contract's forms and channels, and raise an early warning the moment a change looks likely.
