I can't get on with the work

This is the delay nobody instructs. No variation order, no formal change, just drawings that arrive after the work needed them, areas handed over weeks late, and other trades sitting where you were meant to be. Your people are still on site, your prelims, the week-in week-out cost of being there, are still running, and the cost lands a day at a time, quietly enough that no single week feels worth a fight.

Most contracts do give you a route: late information, late access and late possession can support more time and, where the contract provides for it and the cause is evidenced, more money. But any entitlement runs on evidence and notices, not frustration. What you asked for and when, when it actually arrived, where you could not work and what you did instead. Without that record, the argument at the end becomes your word against a programme the other side drew.

The habit costs minutes a day. Log every request and handover as it happens, give the notices the contract asks for, and the delay becomes something you can put to the other side with evidence behind it, rather than a cost you quietly carry.
