The snagging list never closes
Items are being marked done, but the list is not getting shorter and new faults keep appearing.
What's happening?
A snag list only works when every item can be found and checked. Vague notes such as “finish bathroom” make it difficult to tell what was expected, while an item removed after a verbal assurance can reappear as the same unresolved fault. Photographs, locations, dates and a simple status turn a list into a record both sides can follow.
The period after handover can reveal faults that were not visible on the final walk-round. Logging them as they appear, keeping the builder's responses with the item and checking completed work before closing it gives you a clearer picture of what remains. The contract and project records are the place to check the relevant dates and the money still held.
