Close gaps while the facts are warm

A missing fortnight found at the monthly check can still be repaired honestly: a dated statement from the people who were there, written while they still remember, saying clearly when it was made. The same fortnight found at the final account, with the foreman on another job and the phone wiped, is simply gone. The earlier a gap is found, the more of it can be saved.
