Submit the way the contract says, every time

An application to the wrong person, by the wrong route, or a day early against a clause that says on or after, can count as no application at all. However friendly the job, follow the contract's route and form to the letter and keep proof of sending. The routine feels bureaucratic until the month it is all that stands between you and a missed cycle.
