Chase the second half past the end of the job
The final release falls due when defects are made good, often a year or more after handover, when no one is watching. Diarise the end of the rectification period on the day the job reaches practical completion, and put the making-good certificate on the same watch list. The second half belongs to whoever is still paying attention when it falls due.
