My surveyors spend more time typing than surveying
The same measure lives in three trackers and someone retypes it into each. I want to know what that actually costs before I fix it.
What's happening?
Somewhere along the way, the commercial team's week filled up with transcription. The same measure lives in the diary, the tracker and the report, and a person qualified to price work, challenge a rate and negotiate a final account spends their afternoon retyping it into each. Nobody designed the duplication; it accreted, one new tracker and one new report at a time, and each copy is both a lost hour of actual surveying and another chance for the versions to disagree.
The instinct is to leap at a fix, and that is how businesses end up with a fourth tracker. The review does the boring thing first: it watches the work as it is actually done, counts what each task takes and how many systems each number touches, and puts the findings in a ranked list, so whatever gets fixed first is the thing costing the most, measured on your own numbers rather than anyone's sales pitch.
The solution
A week of the team's work, watched and counted.
