I believe the jobs are fine but I can't prove it

What the business is told and what the jobs' records support may not be the same thing.

You are here: The belief is stated monthly; the proof has never been tested.

What's happening?

The reports say the jobs are fine, and you mostly believe them. But belief is doing a lot of work in that sentence, because what the business is told each month and what the jobs' records would actually support are two different things, and the gap between them is where surprises live. It matters beyond the boardroom: accounts get signed, facilities get renewed and bonds get given on the strength of numbers somebody believes.

The test is straightforward to commission and uncomfortable to skip: take what the business was told, and check it against what the jobs' own records support. Where they agree, you have proof instead of belief. Where they do not, you have a ranked repair list and time to act on it, which is a better position than any amount of confidence.

The solution

The gap between reported and supported, measured.
